Inviting a J Exchange Visitor to UCF
Departments and colleges may sponsor a foreign national to come to UCF for the purpose of teaching, lecturing, consulting, and/or conducting research. This is accomplished through the U.S. Department of State’s Exchange Visitor Program designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchanges.
The allowed length of an exchange visitor program depends on the chosen J-1 visa scholar category, which may be research scholar, professor, short-term scholar, or specialist. Each category has specific immigration guidelines and restrictions, thus departments are encouraged to consult with a J immigration advisor at the International Services Center (ISC) prior to offering a position/sponsorship to a foreign national.
